Why Medi Drop?

Expired, unwanted, unused prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines often fill people’s cupboards and medicine cabinets.

Drop Box

By keeping unused, unwanted or expired medication in your home, you risk:

  • children or even animals being poisoned if they find and swallow medication
  • your kids or their friends taking them to get “high”
  • a home break-in by thieves looking to get their hands on medication
Drug abuse is most often linked to property crime as a means to acquire money required to sustain a drug habit…

By flushing, pouring or throwing medication in the trash, you risk:

  • contaminating the water
  • harming wildlife
  • allowing medication to be scavenged and illegally sold

In response to these challenges, the Cornwall Community Police in partnership with the Eastern Ontario Health Unit has provided steel drop off boxes at three locations throughout the City of Cornwall. Collection boxes are clearly marked for this purpose and feature the Medi Drop, Cornwall Community Police Service and Eastern Ontario Health Unit logos.

Residents can also dispose of unwanted medication by returning it to their pharmacy.
